Lying behaviour of housed and outdoor-managed pregnant sheep

چکیده
Lying behaviour has been shown to be highly valuable in supporting the productivity and welfare of cattle. The aim this experiment was investigate effect biological physical factors on lying sheep. Ninety-six Bluefaced Leicester x Welsh Mountain crossbred (Mule) ewes managed lamb indoors, 80 (WM) at grass were used for study. Acceleration values collected two flocks from accelerometers fitted vertically outside rear right leg set record 1-min intervals least 14 d prior parturition. Ewes simultaneously recorded using video equipment identify lambing verify predictions (total time, mean bout duration total number bouts) data 10 randomly selected indoor flock day -10 lambing. Linear regression evaluate predicted behaviours with footage. Predictions time (R2 ≥ 0.99; P > 0.05 slope = 1, intercept 0), 0) bouts 0.98; strongly associated footage (P < 0.001) demonstrating that a sampling interval provides reliable estimates ewe behaviours. Measures (mean daily calculated all averages taken across days -10, -9 -8 test effects independent variables (pregnancy scan result (single- or twin-bearing), age, BCS, ease, sex birth weight) each measure lying. Significant associations 0.05) found between measures pregnancy result, singleton lambs twin weight housed, Mule ewes. Only age significantly WM grass. This information could help guide further research sheep management purposes (e.g., optimise stocking densities pregnant ewes). Further work should also consider evaluating as proxies imminent

Lying aversion and prosocial behaviour
The opportunity to tell a white lie (i.e., a lie that benefits another person) generates a moral conflict between two opposite moral dictates, one pushing towards telling always the truth and the other pushing towards helping others. Here we study how people resolve this moral conflict. What does telling a white lie signal about a person’s pro-social tendencies? To answer this question, we cond...

This study examined the prevalence and incidence of abnormal behaviour in sheep housed individually indoors. Ninety-six castrated Merino sheep were observed using 15-min instantaneous sampling between 08:15 and 18:15 h for two consecutive days over a 3-week period. Sheep on average spent 62% of their time idle, 17% feeding, 1% drinking, 5% pacing, 10% chewing pen fixtures and 4% nosing pen fixt...
متن کاملAre You Lying: Validating the Time-Location of Outdoor Images
Photos have been commonly used in our society to convey information, and the associated contextual information (i.e., the capture time and location) is a key part of what a photo conveys. However, the contextual information can be easily tampered or falsely claimed by forgers to achieve malicious goals, e.g., creating fear among the general public or distorting public opinions. Thus, this paper...
متن کاملTime-dependent transition probabilities and the assessment of seasonal effects on within-day variations in chewing behaviour of housed sheep.
State transitions in the chewing behaviour of six half-breed (Île de FrancexTexel) yearling female sheep (Ovis aries L.) were studied by using jaw movements recorded continuously over 5 days at the end of a number of experimental periods from 21 September 1992 to 4 April 1993. The sheep were housed in individual pens. Each of them received the same diet, that is, 250 g/day of concentrate mix (1...
